Man is a creature who lives not upon bread alone, but primarily by catchwords.
Robert Louis Stevenson
Hey guys..!! Today I went along with my father to his workplace and he had to take an interview for appointing a new employee in the Sales Dept. As per me, that person was completely eligible for the job but who am I to decide. Though Dad told me not to mess with his office files, but I would not have rested without looking through his CV. Only this was the basis for me saying that he was quite eligible for the job. Then after the interview was over, I went up to my dad and asked him what he felt about that guy. And dad said that he was nowhere near to his requirements for being a Sales personnel. The most prominent requirement are good communication skills in which he had hit a low.
Communication is an important facet of life. Communication skills are essential in all spheres of life. It is definitely required and assessed during job interviews but is also required in our daily life for communicating with our colleagues, peers and near and dear ones and putting through our state of mind before them effectively.
I have always realized the significance of the same but have never worked to improve it and I am sure that many of you would be facing the same problem. Actually, the major problem with us is that our vocabulary is very poor which is directly related to the quality of our communication skills. One of the major reasons of me starting this blog was to improve my flair in language, honestly. The success of an endeavour hinges on the ability to communicate effectively in today’s fast paced life, everyone is asked to do more with less. In such a scenario effective communication holds the key. Effective communication centers round the usage of words, speed of delivery of words, pitch modulation and body language.
The only way to improve hold on language I think is to ‘speak’. What? Speak? Yes, continuously interact with people and specially the intellectual ones. for the intro-wards, i would suggest to open up and share your talks with your friends. Any random conversation is not what i am suggesting. Think before you speak every sentence but never get conscious about the grammatical errors you make. Only speaking will not help, you should be a good listener also as it will help you to get acquainted with new words.
I was once with one of the most intellectual seniors of my school and she always is particular about speaking in English. I was not very comfortable with English but I still tried to converse with her. She corrected me quite a few times which was initially embarrassing for me but then I took it as a learning process and mustered up as much knowledge from her. It may sound selfish but I believe that gather knowledge from all the sources you find near and always take the most of every opportunity.
People with good communication skills are more popular and to make yourself visible and noticeable you should engage with people in good conversations.
You can change your world by changing your words… Remember, death and life are in the power of the tongue.
